How to Make Money as a Fitness Influencer: 7 Ways, Honestly Compared

By MUSCLE TECHNICS, the training app that plans every workout around how recovered your muscles are. See how it works →

In short: You can make money with fitness content in several ways, and creators who try often combine a few: paid brand partnerships, affiliate commission, their own products and coaching. The key difference is rhythm. Some ways pay once, others every month for as long as your audience stays. Nobody can promise you a specific income, and neither can we.

Disclosure: MUSCLE TECHNICS is our own app, and the partner program in this article is ours. So we have an interest in you taking a look, which is why it appears here as one option among several, with its limits. Details on other companies’ programs come from their own websites, retrieved on October 23, 2026 (sources at the end), and conditions change. If you spot a mistake, tell us: info@muscletechnics.com.

How to make money as a fitness influencer: the 7 ways at a glance

Whether you call yourself a fitness influencer, content creator, coach or trainer, the money comes in a handful of ways. The table shows how it arrives for each, what you need and where the catch is. Earnings figures are left out on purpose: they depend on audience, niche and effort, and we found no reliable averages for any of these ways. On a phone, swipe the table sideways.

WayHow the money arrivesWhat you needThe catch
Paid brand partnershipsone-off, per post or campaign; you negotiate the feean audience that fits the brandIncome stops when the posts stop. You have to disclose the partnership.
Affiliate with one-off commission (gear, apparel, nutrition)once per purchase, usually a percentage of the pricelinks and your audience’s trustEach purchase pays once; no purchases, no pay.
Affiliate with recurring commission (apps, software, memberships)every month for as long as the referred person stays a member; some programs only pay for a limited timea product you use yourself and can explainIt takes time for months to add up; cancellations reduce the total.
Your own digital products (training plans, e-books, courses)sale price minus platform feesexpertise and time to create themA lot of upfront work; you are responsible for content and support.
Online coaching (one-on-one or groups)a fee per client, often monthlyexpertise and time for every clientYour hours cap your income.
A paid community or membershipa monthly fee from your followersregular content and moderationYou have to keep delivering, or members cancel.
Platform payouts (ad revenue, channel memberships)based on views and reach, under the platform’s rulesa large, steady audienceAmounts swing a lot, and the platform can change its rules.

A rule of thumb for choosing:

One-off or monthly? The difference adds up

With a one-off commission, you get paid when someone buys. With a recurring commission, you get paid for as long as they stay. That changes how you plan: with one-off pay you need new buyers all the time, with recurring pay a base builds up. Whether you post on Instagram, YouTube or TikTok, the same logic applies.

Example with assumed numbers, not an offer: 20 people sign up through your link. With a one-off commission of $15, you earn $300 once. With a recurring commission of $3 per month, you earn $60 a month: you break even after 5 months, and after 12 months it is $720 if everyone stays. If some cancel, the recurring total shrinks; the one-off commission stays.

Recurring does not always mean unlimited. Two examples from software providers for coaches, as of October 23, 2026: FitBudd lists 15% recurring commission for 12 months, and Everfit pays 10% of the revenue from the coaches you refer during their first 2 years. Both promote a tool for coaches, not a training app for members, so they are only partly comparable with ours. Rate, duration, minimum payout and cookie window (how long a click on your link counts) differ from program to program. Read the terms before you commit.

What to check in a partner program

The MUSCLE TECHNICS partner program: one option among several

We do not pay a fixed fee per post. Instead, you earn recurring commission every month for the active members from your community, for as long as they stay.

The first 10 active memberships each month cover administration, contracts and support, so they earn no commission. For every one after that you get $4 per month, from 50 active users $5. In return, you use the app for free as a partner.

active userscommission is paid forrate per userper monthper year
2010$4$40$480
3020$4$80$960
5040$5$200$2,400
10090$5$450$5,400

Example with assumed numbers, net amounts, in US dollars (planned for partners outside the EU, from the launch in their country). Illustration, not typical or expected earnings; the program is new. How many active users you reach depends on your community. The rule is fixed: for every active user above the first 10 who meets the conditions, you get the commission. Partners in the EU are paid in euros: €4 per active user, €5 from 50 active users.

Active means: a referral who has signed up with your code, paid for the current month and made their first payment more than 14 days ago. Anyone who cancels or gets a refund within the first 14 days does not count.

Annual membership: for every paid annual membership from your community you get a one-time $20 ($35 for the €169 annual membership from 1 August 2027), and again for every renewal. There is no monthly commission for an annual member, but they count as an active user for the whole paid year, for the threshold, the rate and the first 10.

Becoming a partner: in the EU you can apply in the app as soon as 10 users who joined with your code are active. As a creator or coach with your own audience you do not have to collect them first: write to partner@muscletechnics.com with your channel, your reach, your audience and the country you live in. We review the request and get back to you; if we agree, you get an individual contract. There is no follower minimum, and no right to be accepted.

Your community: once you are a partner, anyone who signs up with your code tries the app free for 30 days instead of 14. On top of that, everyone gets 1 free month once they make their first payment. The code has to be entered when they sign up, most easily through your link, or added within 7 days after. Currently only for residents of the EU.

Launching in the US with our App Store release. Today, memberships are available to people who live in the EU. US memberships start with that launch (we are not naming a date yet), and your commission there is planned to start then too. Pre-register as a partner now by email, so you are ready on launch day. We will contact you before we launch in your country. Write to partner@muscletechnics.com.

The limits: no fixed fee per post, no commission for the first 10 active memberships each month, only active users count, and only after the 14-day refund window. Payout is by one invoice per quarter, and every partnership is based on a written contract. All terms are on the page fitness app affiliate program for creators and trainers.

For personal trainers: extra income without extra hours

You see your clients once or twice a week. On the other days they train alone. If you recommend an app you believe in, that can add income without adding hours. Be open about the fact that you earn from it, and recommend only what fits your client. What trainers charge and when one is worth it is covered in Personal Trainer Cost 2026 and AI Personal Trainer Apps: Do They Work?

How to start in five steps

  1. Pick a topic where you are credible: strength training, nutrition, mobility, running.
  2. Build your audience where you can deliver regularly. One platform is enough at the start.
  3. Try what you recommend. Use products and programs yourself before you apply.
  4. Start with one way that fits your time, and add a second one only then.
  5. Disclose ads and keep track of your income. That saves trouble with the tax authorities and with your audience.

FAQ

Can you make money as a fitness influencer?

Yes, in several ways: paid brand partnerships, affiliate commission, your own products, coaching, a paid community and platform payouts. No way guarantees a specific income. It depends on your audience, your niche, trust and effort. Many creators combine several ways, so that not everything depends on one.

How much do fitness influencers make?

There is no reliable average. Figures in guides mostly come from companies that sell something themselves, and they vary widely. Rely on the terms of a program instead, and use your own cautious assumptions, like the example in this article.

How can a personal trainer or fitness coach make extra money online?

With online coaching, your own plans or digital products, or by recommending tools your clients use anyway and earning commission on them. A partner program for an app needs no product of your own, so it can add income without adding hours. Tell your clients that you earn from it.

How many followers do you need?

It depends on the program. The MUSCLE TECHNICS partner program has no follower minimum: we review every request, and there is no right to be accepted. Other programs and brands set their own standards, which you find in their terms.

What is the difference between one-off and recurring commission?

A one-off commission pays right away, whether or not the person stays. A recurring commission pays over months and builds a base, but shrinks when members cancel. With recurring programs, check the duration: some only pay for 12 months or 2 years.

Do I have to disclose affiliate links?

Usually yes. In the US, the FTC says to disclose a relationship with a brand if you got anything of value for mentioning a product, in simple, clear language such as “ad” or “sponsored”, placed with the endorsement itself. Other countries have their own rules; in Germany it is section 5a(4) of the UWG. This is not legal advice.

What does the MUSCLE TECHNICS partner program pay?

The first 10 active memberships each month cover administration, contracts and support, so they earn no commission. For every one after that you get $4 per month, from 50 active users $5. Example: 30 active users earn 20 × $4 = $80 per month. An annual membership brings a one-time $20 instead ($35 for the €169 annual membership from 1 August 2027). There is no monthly commission for an annual member, but they count as an active user for the whole paid year, for the threshold, the rate and the first 10. The one-time commission is not affected by the first 10: you get it for every annual payment as soon as you have at least 10 active users that month (no threshold with an individual contract). Example: 30 active users in a month, 18 of them pay monthly, 12 have an annual membership, and 2 of those paid for their year this month. That is 18 × $4 = $72 plus 2 × $20 = $40, $112 in total. Outside the EU, the commission applies from the launch of MUSCLE TECHNICS in your country. Amounts are net, and you pay your own taxes. Partners in the EU are paid in euros: €4 per active user, €5 from 50 active users.

Is MUSCLE TECHNICS available in the US?
